How are you feeling today?
:: 江南 by 林俊傑 ::

Feeling moody & sad today. I accompanied my Agong coming from Indo to see doctor. Despite suffering from pain in his hand and back, he never stops caring about me. When I was reminded of how hard he worked in the past, tears almost rolled off my eyes. I tried to bury that heavy thought upstream of River South, but only to realise it came back with more pain and sorrow downstream.

Will you get far in life?

:: 你给的 by 石欣卉 ::

Hmm, that depends. I hope people around me (family & friends) could give me the support I need when I embark on sth I feel important. Without them, I’ll never get far in life.

How do your friends see you?
:: 不会分离 by 光良 ::

A bookworm? A blur-sotong? A shy-panda? But I hope it’s not very bad. I just wish the friendship-bond 不会分离.

Will you get married?
:: 飞机场的10.30 by David Tao ::

Well, I will if I manage to ask her not to leave after mustering my courage to tell her my feelings before she left for the 10.30 flight at Changi Airport. What a lame & drama answer!

What is your best friend’s theme song?
:: 爱很简单 by David Tao ::

Best friend ar? Quite a few wor. But the theme is the same, i.e. simple & sincere. That will do.

What is the story of your life?
:: 烟火 by 光良 ::

My life is like a series of chem rxns. Upon addition of different reagents (inspiration from different people) during the course of rxn, different colour, products & impact are generated. I do hope that my life will conclude beautifully like a 烟火, without any regret.

What was high school like?

:: 晴天 by Jay Chou ::

Haha, it certainly matched what I felt then. Happily enjoying every moment of school life with a group of like-minded bookworms. It was fun doing aerobic exercise early in the sunny Friday morning with a large group of friends & teachers. Even thou there are occasional dark clouds, but most of the time it’s 晴天.

What’s in store for this weekend?
:: 安静 by Jay Chou ::

Hmm, dunno. I seldom plan my weekends. Probably as 安静 as usual. Haha, maybe I should try to spend my weekend playing like crazy with a bunch of crazy friends… Ooh, who am I referring to? Oops, no offence!

How’s your life going?
:: 当我们同在一起 by 王羚柔 ::

Contrary to the song’s mood, life has gotten quite tense recently. But it has shown signs of slowing down. Probably I’ve gotten too tired pushing myself to reach the targets that I set. People often say I’m too stressed. Well, at this moment, I’m recalling the happy memories of my life while relaxing in this song…

How can you get ahead in life?
:: Heaven Knows by Rick Price ::

Erm, I’m the type who believes that effort is more important than luck. So I’ll continue to put in effort for things I believe will work out in the end. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll blame it on my luck! Haha, only Heaven knows what’s in store for me.

What’s the best thing about your friends?
:: Flying Without Wings by Westlife ::

Haha, my friends are like angels to me. Thou they don’t have wings, I can imagine them always flying by my side. They occupy a very special place in my heart. These 3 years have been one of my happiest moments in life, surrounded by a group of very special friends. What more can I ask for?

What song will they play at your funeral?
:: 背影 by 林宥嘉 ::

1 of my favourite songs. I’ll be more than happy if people are willing to play it for me. Hmm, I don’t wish people to remember me after I go, not even my 背影. Coz I know I often create troubles for people around me & also don’t bring happiness them. I just hope they’ll forgive me.

How does the world see you?
:: 他一定很愛你 by 阿杜 ::

I certainly hope so!

Will you have a happy life?
:: If You Come Back by Blue ::

I dunno. If someone I missed so much can come back to me, even for a while, I would be happy.

Do people secretly lust after you?
:: On The Run by Natalie Imbruglia ::

Haha, certainly impossible. Nobody in the right frame of mind would do that. I’m always on the run, nobody has the free time to run after me also!

How can you make yourself happy?
:: My Anata by David Tao ::

Perhaps by indulging myself in my very own, crazy, ideal & music-filled world.

What should you do with your life?
:: 光年 by 李圣杰 ::

Hmm, perhaps I’d spend light years to understand what life is truly about. I’m still working to improve it. But huge challenges lie ahead, as always.

Will you ever have children?

:: I Love You by Joanna Wang ::

I love children, but I don’t wish the world to have a few more people like me. But a quick reality check predicts that the answer is most likely no.

What song would you strip to?
:: I Believe by David Tao ::

Ooh, I believe I won’t strip de… No strong muscles, no 6 pads. Aiyoh, nothing interesting to see also lar.

Like all other mums in the world, she always thinks that I’m a 长不大的孩子. Her unwavering care & love for me is just like 那首歌.

:: Jewel by Ayumi Hamasaki ::

I do have mortal enemies, but that’s in the past liao. Astonishing? But I won’t throw precious jewels to them for revenge la.

What’s your personality like?
:: 童話 by 光良 ::

I admit I’m a perfectionist, trying to achieve ideal results, which most likely only happen in fairy tales. I’m quite a dreamy person at times, because I strongly believe that life without dreams is boring. But I'll try to use practical & down-to-earth methods to achieve my dreams.

What song will be played at your wedding?
:: Beautiful by Christina Aguilera ::

Wah, kena jackpot! If that day ever comes, I’ll tell her “You are so beautiful today & you will always be beautiful in my heart”. Hu la la, I can’t believe I actually said such mushy words.

Perplexed

This time I gotta admit 人算不如天算. After a fortnight of intense temp job search, still can't find one. Initially was planning to go back Indo to celebrate Mother's Day after temp job is confirmed. Haiz...

Then looking for a room to stay also proves to be a challenge. With sky-rocketing housing prices, people are demanding expensive rental fees while supplying less facilities. Hope this one can make it.

Price of everything is going up nowdayz. With global worries of tight energy supplies & ever-increasing voracious appetite for energy, oil price continuously breaks records. At the same time, food price also increases, bcoz of higher energy & fertiliser costs, greater global demand, droughts, loss of rice farmland to biofuel plantations & commodities speculators. This is exacerbated by global warming, with high temperature causing more perspiration, making people thirsty at a faster rate. With food & water getting scarce, people become more pek chek & aggressive. Aircon usage will be like never before, again this increases energy consumption & electricity bill like hell. Then people become even more pek chek & this vicious cycle continues.

The high energy price already affects people's lives. Like what happened in my Indo home, according to my mum, blackout occurs virtually every other day. Why does this happen despite Indo has large amount of natural gas reserves in Natuna Islands (viz. part of Riau Islands province) which can be used as clean fuel to generate electricity? Well, fuel price is the culprit again.

Hmm, it's been said that the explosive growth of China & India create tremendous economic opportunities for the rest of the world. This is true. However, it seems that more wealth does not equate to better quality of life. With the average world's standard of living increases with time, there's bound to be higher energy consumption. What do all these all lead to? Guess we all know the answer already.

Summer Vacation

Yeah! Exams finally ended nicely today. This sem have been akin to riding a roller coaster, with frequent emo swings. Haiz, dun wanna mention about it, it's sad story. Just quietly wait for the results.

Nah, with a 2-month holiday, what should I do? Maybe I should ask, what I can do instead. Almost broke, I should seriously try to get a vacation job. Admin job? Waiter? Distribute flyers? Dunno. I should do sth meaningful, to earn extra $$$ & kill time at the same time. Dun wanna grow moulds at home & wasted this holiday.

Meanwhile, there are still some important things to be settled. Hope can get them done quickly & smoothly. Now I have all the time in the world to catch up on my sleep & continue my Bleach craze. Haiz, duo luo dao...

P.S. Walau, what a hot weather! Global warming is real. I wanna move to the poles!

A Cause for Celebration

One of the Shell Apprentice Teams, haha
(Phew, luckily we're not fired!)

Hurray! No more assignments, reports, projects, quizzes. Our weeks of hard work on Shell project crystallised into a 12-min presentation to a 6-judge panel (4 Shell staff, Prof Leslie & Prof Teo) on "How to make a refinery to be more green and yet remain more competitive?"
I must shout this loudly : Our team got the 3rd prize for this presentation!

When Dr Lim said "The winner of the 3rd prize is Group K". I was thinking "Who is Group K?" Then I heard me & my team members names, "Har, we won? Hontoni?" That moment, I wanna say, thank you Papa, thank you Mama, thank you everyone T_T

Again, it's my lucky number 3. Each of us got S$20 NTUC vouchers! Haha, of course for an NTUC regular like me, this came in handy. Then It so happens that we've got stuff on progressive crude distillation, membrane distillation, CO2 & NOx emissions reduction. Among the panel of jugdges, Prof Teo is a membrane expert (I didn't know lo!) & another Shell staff is a furnace expert! When they say it, I was thinking "Oh shit!". Actually I already felt uneasy yesterday night, since NOx is a rather neglected part in most of the research on refinery emissions reduction & yet we're trying to present it. Sure kena arrows la! During Q&A, the furnace expert really asked us questions & somehow I didn't managed to answer everything he wanted to know.

Btw, Lenard's team got 2nd prize for innovative ideas on algae-based technology, some of them developed at MIT (my dream uni), green freedom & also solutions based on short, medium & long term needs. As expected, the top prize went to the God's team (TK's friend), with self-constructed process flowchart for integration of 3 green processes.

But luckily, with good research done by other team members & excellent presentation by our presenters, CS and SZ, we made it through despite my lousy answer. I know you heard it thousands of times liao. But I must say "Thanks, Chiuseng. Thanks, Shu Zheng". Hahaha...

That great feeling is back. So motivated! Now, it's time to work hard for the exams. Everyone, ganbatte yo!

Is it the End?

You have greatly inspired me in the past
You have entirely changed my way of thinking
You have given me confidence to face & solve difficult problems

However
Why is it so much of a struggle to know what you're thinking now?
Have I really lost the ability to understand you?
Or is it simply the revelation of truth
That I'm really not suitable for you?

I will try to understand you once more
This will decide if our 8-year relationship will end here

Critical Point

It has been a super-duper-busy sem and also a thoroughly disappointing sem. With an infinite amount of work to do and failure in most quizzes, I've been thrown into an abyss of darkness and despair. Due to over-indulgence in trying to change plus the annoying external problems that always bug me every sem, I'm now in a really really bad state. So bad that I don't recognise who I am now.

Frankly speaking, it's not really the low grade that hurts, but the lost motivation and meaning behind studying. However, things seem to be changing. Few weeks ago, I started to watch anime "Bleach". It's certainly a new-found entertainment. However, I realised sth very important from it. The main character Ichigo, in his fight with shinigami(s) from Soul Society to save his good friend Rukia, has displayed tremendous will to fight and survive, despite facing extremely strong opponents. Even in the brink of death, he will never admit defeat and die just like that. By gathering all his remaining strength, he stands up again and fight bravely. So inspiring!

I was kinda knocked heavily in the head. What in the world am I doing until now? Wasting time and becoming more and more stupid. I have decided! I must gather all my strength and will, standing up and fighting with purpose, passion and discipline again. A lot of times, things and experiences just slip through us quickly without us even realizing it. Therefore, I must cherish the moment and put in my best effort, rather than regretting after doing nothing at all!

Ganbatte, Herman-san!

An Unfortunate Life

Sometimes I really wonder what’s the purpose of my existence in this world. Is it to make people feel more confused, more irritated or more awkward? If I was never born, the world should be a slightly better place.

Only in recent year I realized how deep the impacts of my poly IA as lab assistant & work as gas plant technician on my life. I guess friends who know me for very long had noticed significant changes in my way of thinking & also personality-as-it-appears-to-others. I had turned into a person plagued with excessive fatigue, carelessness, blurness & stupidity, despite eating well & having enough rest. I've been thinking what's happened to myself & finally reached a conclusion. The short & long-term exposure to toxic chemical vapours/gases during poly IA & technician work had exerted its chronic effect, despite all the safety precautions I've made. In short, my brain & bodily functions have been partially impaired. These are not all. After recovering from 2nd dengue fever in my 1st year in NTU, there seems to be an abnormality in the body, e.g. sensitive skin reaction to hot sun. You may find it hard to believe, but I never felt like this before.

As an often-misunderstood person, I'm perceived to think in a certain way, viz the blur way, which dies hard. I've tried very hard to counteract these after-effects, but to no avail. As a result, I often made stupid mistakes (which I shouldn’t have) & also did badly in tests & exams.

All these only aggravated my efforts to change myself towards a better person. To achieve my wish to be a chemical engineer, I’ve sacrificed my health & social life in the process. It’s really unfortunate…

I feel apologetic to people around me who've been putting up with my weirdness, blurness, carelessness and stupidity.

Spring Cleaning

Aiyoh... So many spider webs, dusts & moulds... Ooh, I left my blog for 1 month liao. Finally have time to do spring cleaning of my blog.

Haiz, super busy since school starts, until this moment, still doing assignments & report, for submission the day after CNY holiday. What a holiday! Finally completed the 1st quizzes for process control & modeling. Super-duper bad results for PC. Hope modeling results is better.

Ooh, today finally managed to shop at JP, with JY, TK, ZR & SZ. Bought 2 shirts for CNY. I like them, nice! Okie, shall stop here.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!
